Annie get your gun
LANSING — Women and young ladies wishing to learn how to handle shotguns are invited to attend a shotgun shooting skills class as part of the Michigan DNR’s Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program.
The small class of 12 will be held at the Capital Area Sportsmen’s League to offer quality one-on-one instruction by two qualified instructors.
Tom Stewart, certified trap instructor and Albert Massey an instructor in five stand will show the attendees all about clay target shooting and gun handling.
Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. at the club, followed by a firearm safety and handling session. Participants should bring their own shotguns and four boxes of low-brass ammo. Guns will be provided to those who do not own one, but they should also bring their own 20 gauge shells. Lunch will be provided. Details: Lynn Marla at 517-241-2225 or e-mail marlal@michigan.gov

Errors in deer guide
LANSING — Hunters should be aware that several errors have been found in the 2008 Michigan Antlerless Deer Hunting Guide. Noteably, several deer management units with public land licenses available were not listed. The DNR points out that the map is correct, but the table is incomplete. Correct tables have been distributed to area licensed dealers in the state.
The antlerless deer license application period started July 15 and runs until Aug. 1. The listing of counties open to the late firearm antlerless season has not changed from last year and is correct.
