DAVISON — Davison Community Schools reported two recent incidents of students being approached by strangers.
Both instances involved elderly men offering rides to female students, according to information released May 8.
Two Davison Middle School students were approached on a recent Saturday. A balding man with gray hair driving a black Trail Blazer-type vehicle drove past them while they were walking along Lapeer Road near Irish Road. The man turned around, stopped and asked the girls if they wanted a ride. The girls ran away.
A high school student reported to school officials Thursday, May 8, that a man driving a dark green S-10 size truck drove past her, made a U-turn, and stopped as she was walking Wednesday afternoon along Davison Road, between Oak and Cummings. The man, described as in his 50s with a gray and white beard, asked the student if she wanted a ride. The student headed to a nearby house, and the man drove off.
As the weather turns warmer and more students are outside, the school district encourages parents to review with their children what they should do if they are approached by a stranger.
Police and the district ask that any suspicious behavior be reported immediately by calling 911. — M.D.
