DAVISON — Davison resident Jim Slezak recently announced his candidacy as a Democrat for state representative in the 50th District of the Michigan House of Representatives.

He will embark on a door-to-door campaign to discuss the problems residents want solved in their legislature, particularly those concerning rising gas prices, tax increases and the state of the economy.

“I will use my business skills to reduce unnecessary spending at the state level, generate creative ideas to attract businesses to our area and work closely with existing job-providers to make sure they have a competitive environment that will help them to be successful and to stay in Michigan,” Slezak said.

He graduated from Davison High School in 1985 and received a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Yale University in 1989. He is currently the vice president and owner of Photo Factory USA, Inc. and has been a professional photographer for 15 years.

Slezak and his wife Kathleen have three children: Bridgette, Gabrielle and Jack. He also is a member of the Knights of Columbus and coaches softball, T-ball and youth football. His experience working with children has led him to make education a priority in his campaign.

“The future of our community depends on quality education and having jobs for our children when they graduate from high school and college,” he said.

The 50th District includes Burton, Davison, Davison Township, Richfield Township and Genesee Township.
