DAVISON — School projects scheduled throughout the district over the summer are coming along right on schedule said Director of Finance and Operations Dan Romzek.
“We’ve had a lot of activity in the district,” Romzek said July 21. “It’s exciting to be able to provide positive improvements to our schools.”
He said all the work crews are right on schedule, including the school’s custodial staff.
“Our custodians have been working very hard since the day school let out this summer. They’ve been doing a great job,” he said. “All of our projects are right on track, and we’ll be in great shape for school Sept. 2,” Romzek said.
The largest project nearing completion is the $1.3 million Thomson Elementary expansion which will add four classrooms, restrooms, and conference and storage rooms to the existing building.
Renovation projects are taking place at Siple and Hill Elementary schools. Siple’s renovations include redoing classrooms with new flooring and cabinets, new windows, exterior doors, restroom renovations and expanding the office.
Hill’s renovations include new floors, ceilings, and cabinets, work on corridor ceilings, adding new lights and parking lot repairs. Romzek said they also added a new heating and cooling system in the school’s gymnasium. Total cost for both projects is $940,000.
Romzek said a rewiring and infrastructure project at Gates Elementary School is also moving along. Crews also are working on miscellaneous painting and replacing carpet in the school’s media center. The total cost $163,000.
The completion of an $82,000 access control system that will detect and signal when entrance doors at the high school are open is coming along. He said workers are also finishing up on the installation of a new welcome station outside the main office, of new chemistry equipment, and are completing parking lot and miscellaneous painting in the school.
Other school projects include: miscellaneous painting at Central Elementary School, expanding sidewalks around the bus loop and miscellaneous painting at Hahn Intermediate School, replacement of wooden stairs at the northeast entrance and miscellaneous painting at Davison Alternative Education. — Monica DuFour
