DAVISON TWP. — A new sidewalk approved by Davison Township will bring residents of the township and City of Davison closer together after the board gave their approval on a project bid July 21.
The township board approved the bid contract from Waldorf & Sons Inc., of Mt. Morris on July 21. Total cost for the project is $118,948.50.
Supervisor Kurt Soper said the township has been seriously discussing adding the sidewalk for about a year now.
“We got the idea after the city of Burton repaved and widened Davison Road and added a sidewalk from Belsay Rd. to Vassar Rd, about three years ago,” he said.
Waldorf & Sons Inc. is scheduled to begin placing the five-foot wide sidewalk contractor will place a five-foot wide sidewalk on the north side of Davison Rd., from Irish Rd., to the city, which is a little more than a mile (6,715 liner feet), Soper said.
Soper said the new walkway will be incorporated with the current sidewalk by VG’s, 8503 Davison Rd.
Building Planning Administrator Randy Stewart said they’re estimating about 300 feet of sidewalk placed everyday. “We’re anticipating the project to be complete by Sept. 1,” he said.
“I think the sidewalk will provide people the opportunity of walking to of their subdivisions into the city or to VG’s he said. “It will also give residents in the city the opportunity to visit the township,” he said.
Stewart said with the high cost of gas more and more people are walking. “Health-wise and economic-wise walking is a plus,” he said.
“We did a connectivity study which indicated people were all for walking places,” Stewart added.
