DAVISON TWP. — Students of DTV had a repeat performance this year as the Davison High School students again won top honors in the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association competition April 21 in Lansing.
Along with many individual honors, Davison received a Spartan Award, given to the best broadcasting schools in the state.
Students were honored with more than 20 individual awards for their stories, script writing, public service announcements, reporting and anchoring duties.
Senior Zach Hall received the All-MIPA award for best video journalist and earned a $500 scholarship.
DTV, aired on Charter Cablevision’s Channel 19, is produced by students and school staff in a studio at Davison High School.
Students write, edit, film and produce stories for a daily news broadcast aired weekday mornings as well as for The District, a monthly news show about events and activities in the school district. DTV also broadcasts athletic games, school concerts and pre-prom coverage.
“It’s great to see their hard work pay off,” DTV Instructor Randy Scott said. “The looks on the kids’ faces when they won were priceless. This is a dedicated group with a bright future ahead of them. We are building a program to be proud of.”
Students earning first-place MIPA awards were: Zach Hall, for best news story, commercial, and script; Aubrie Hoffman, human interest story; and Granger Stefanko, broadcast feature.
Second place: Ethan Hall and Zach Hall, public service announcement; Aubrie Hoffman, sports story.
Third place: Kristina Carmody, field reporter; Cameron Smith, feature story; Madison Mitchell, human interest; and Greg Palawski, live sports story.
Honorable mention: Zach Hall, news story; Greg Palawski, human interest; Aubrie Hoffman, script writing; Madison Mitchell, script writing and anchor; Cam Smith, sports story; Greg Palawski, anchor and field reporter; Gordy Pfeiffer, music video; and Eric Calhoun, short film.
