DAVISON TWP. — Ten police officers received department awards from Chief Larry Hrinik at the May 12 Davison Township board meeting.
Hrinik said there was a tie for “marksman of the year,” with a score of 97.8 percent achieved by officers Phil Yurk and Randy Forman. He said there could only be one “marksman” so the two had a shoot-off, Hrinik said Yurk won by a shot.
Davison Police clerks Nicole Pavelock and Mary Pavelock received certificates of appreciation for their effort to prevent vandalism on the Black Creek Trail.

Lt. Christi Markwardt, officers Chad Hynes and Jimmie Baber received awards for not having a chargeable vehicle accident for five consecutive years.
David Tidwell received a letter of commendation for volunteering to work on updating police vehicles, which the chief said saved the department about $1,500.
Pavelock also received a civilian commendation for coming to the aid of a woman in a vehicle accident in Richfield Township.

Officer Randy Forman received a department certification of merit for pulling over a suspect with a vehicle equipment violation. He found drugs and obtained a search warrant and uncovered a growing operation. He also found handguns, a long gun, cash and an automobile. They seized about $30,000, Hrinik said.
Officer Corey Hynes pulled a vehicle over for an equipment violation and later seized marijuana and uncovered a drug distributor, Hrinik said. “The investigation is still ongoing.”
