Asbestos abatement scheduled for Siple

RICHFIELD TWP. — An asbestos abatement project is slated for Siple Elementary School beginning in June and will be finished by fall. The Davison Community Schools board approved the contract for Beal Inc. of Ann Arbor, May 5, to do the asbestos removal of windows. Beal also will also remove cabinets in two classrooms containing asbestos.

Director of Finance and Operations Dan Romzek said asbestos was used in the 1970s when the school was constructed. “Due to the environmental requirements surrounding asbestos-containing materials, this work must be performed by a certified asbestos abatement contractor.”

A total of nine bids were received Romzek said. He recommended Beal Inc., as it was the lowest bidding company with a contract amount of $19,150.
