Patrick Dowdall Sr., 87, of Flint, died St. Patrick’s Day, Monday, March 17, 2008 surrounded by his loving Irish family. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Monday, March 24 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, G-5199 Richfield Road, Rev. Fr. Paul Schwermer presider. Burial with military honors will follow in Great Lakes National Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 E. Davison Road, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. both Friday and Saturday, and noon-4 p.m. Sunday. A Rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. Sunday.
Mr. Dowdall was born in Flint on Dec. 20, 1920, son of the late Michael and Virginia (Noblet) Dowdall. He was graduated from St. Mary’s in 1939, where he played for the state champion basketball team, which was inducted into the Flint Sports Hall of Fame. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He married Ida Elizabeth Quinn on May 23, 1942. He was a founding member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, and was a custom builder for 42 years.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Marguirete Dowdall, Helen Marzonie and Michael Dowdall.
Survivors include: his wife of 65 years, Betty; children, Pat (Sue), Moureen (Dean) Bishoff, Tim, Tom (Debbie), Terry, Julie (Joel) Fournier, Kerrie (Ralph) Layman and Kellie (Thad) Shegos; 23 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
The family offered special thanks to Fr. Santhiyagu Arockiyasamy at St. Mary’s in Flint, to the staff at Saginaw VA Hospital and to caregiver Rebekah Stone.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Rosary Catholic Church or to the Saginaw VA Hospital.
