Tribute to Mom

Tribute to Mom
Mom: We don’t tell you enough how much we love you Mom, and we are so blessed to have a Mother as wonderful as you. We love you, Gayle and Janet.

GENESEE COUNTY — In honor of Mother’ Day on May 11, VIEW Newspapers asked readers to submit memories and photos of their mothers.

My mother, Joanne Odishooe, is great in many ways. She is giving, caring, loving and a wonderful Grammie. She has been an integral part of my daughter’s life since I returned to work after her birth. My Mother takes care of Kaitlyn Marie the way that I would and for that I am forever grateful. Words cannot express how thankful I am for her love and support and I wish her a very Happy Mother’s Day! — Jennifer Henson, Davison

I wish to honor my mother, Arthie McGinnis. She was born May 4, 1906 in Kentucky. She went home to heaven Nov. 16, 1981.

Her and my father Orval moved to Charlevoix, Mich., in 1937, with eight children. They had for more children by 1949. Eight boys and four girls.

She had seven sons in the armed forces. Three in World War II and one in Viet Nam.
We moved to Flint in 1953. She was a stay-at-home mom, of course. She had a strong faith in God. She never had anything bad to say about anyone.

When she passed away, she was the grandmother of 47 and great-grandmother of 59. — Zola Speakes, Burton

Hi! My name is Ashlee Henderson and I am 12 years old. My mom is a lot of things but the best thing about her is her love and care. My mom doesn’t know how many people love her. I am writing this on April 18, 2008. My mom doesn’t know I’m doing this. All she thinks I got her for Mother’s Day is a mouse pad, but I’m doing much more than that.

I am showing her how much I love and care for her. So if you are reading mom, I wish you the happiest Mother’s Day you ever had. I know it seems weird that I’ve never been able to do anything like this for her, but I saw your ad in the Burton VIEW and I thought that it would be a nice thing to do for you. (My mom is the one in the purple dress, blue sweater, white shoes and blonde, short hair.)

She may look old, but she’s still 16 at heart. I love my mom sooo much! She doesn’t know! I love you mom and Happy Mother’s Day! — Ashlee Henderson, Burton

My mother, Lynda George, has constantly been there for me all of my 17 years. When my dad (her first husband) passed away in 2003, we had to lean on each other and God for support. Even when I acted out at my worst, she never gave up on me when I needed her the most. She has been the best mom any girl could ask for in not only good times, but also in the bad.

I want to thank her so much for all of her love and prayers and say, “Happy Mother’s Day Mom!” Love, Your Princess Brat. — Stephanie Nelson, Burton

Tribute to my mother-in-law:
Clare Hatten is the world’s greatest mother-in-law. She is a wonderful lady with a big heart and never stops giving to everyone.

I wish we had more time in our busy schedules to see her everyday, but I count my blessings the days I do see her.

I thank God for the beautiful jewel he has shared with me. — Melynda Hatten, Grand Blanc

My mom is everything that God has intended her to be. She encourages me when I need it; criticizes me when I deserve it; makes me laugh when I am crying; makes me cry because I’m laughing. She is my best friend, through thick and thin. She has reminded me of hidden beauty and helped mend many broken hearts. To Mom — the mom I could never live without. I love you and happy Mother’s Day. — America MacDermaid, Davison

If I had to describe my Mom in one word it would be INCREDIBLE. She is our LEADER, TEACHER, and COUNSELOR, and despite some of our misgivings, her love remains strong and unconditional. Mom sacrificed many of her wants and needs to raise her four children who all respect and admire her strength. Because of her I realize the true meaning of family.

Mom, if I can only pass on to my son half of the lessons that you’ve passed to me I shall be truly blessed.
I love you mom, — Beth McCarty

Happy Mother’s Day to our mother, Margaret Zernhelt who has always been there for my eight siblings and the many foster children that we shared our home with. Mom, you’ve always encouraged us to give back to our community and church by your wonderful example. Now in your 95th year, you have many health problems to persevere but you still smile and laugh when we come to visit you. We love you mom! — Zirnhelt children and grandchildren.

My Mother
Laura Irene Bruner
1/17/23 - 1/25/84
She’s no longer with us,
but always in our hearts.
She always knew how to
brighten a down day.
I can only hope that I learned enough,
by her example to brighten the lives of
my daughter, as well as others.

She now sleeps in God’s rest. — Brenda Bewley, Burton
