Storyteller Carol Day entertains young and old alike during a Davison Area Library event on Saturday, May 9, in the Davison city council chambers. The mother-daughter tea also included a hat-making contest and other fun appropriate to the Mother’s Day celebration.
Elmwood Drive resident Anne Kelley summed up the feeling shared by several of her neighbors: “If the sidewalk goes, the road won’t.” With that said, the Davison City Council voted on Monday, May 11, that ongoing plans for paving of Elmwood Drive will not include sidewalks. What is currently a short, unpaved, private dirt drive continues to evoke differing views.
It’s been a while coming, but the temporary clerk for the Davison Area Fire Department, Melissa Larsen, has become a permanent fixture of the agency. She started answering phones during business hours, generating reports, calculating attendance and payroll, logging vehicle service records and other duties last October, when she was assigned by a temporary service.

Robert Slezak, principal of Davison High School, announced the top ten graduating seniors for the Class of 1983. Two students share the Number 1 position this year with 4.0 (straight A) averages — Barbara Belveal and Elaine Loch — and two share the number 2 position with 3.95 averages, Richard Peterson and Thomas Scofield.
Action was fast May 12 when Davison’s baseball team swept a twinbill from Flint Powers. Lance Colles comes up with a hot grounder at shortstop while Jim Slezak gives the stand-up signal to a teammate crossing home plate. New Proprietors of the former Sweeney Market at the corner of Irish and Davison Roads are Ken and Jean Elston. Jean is the daughter of Bert Palmer, who owned and operated the business for years.
Davison Sidewalk Days shoppers will find Jean Carol salesgirls wearing identical dresses and bonnets throughout the three-day event in cooperation with merchants throughout the Northlite Shopping District. The Jean Carol Shop will display merchandise and serve customers on the sidewalk in front of the North State Street store as well as the new downtown branch. Proprietors are Carol Howlett and Jean Hodge.

Tom Richardson will soon move his mill from Millington to Mrs. Newcomb’s place, where he will saw the logs taken out of the river last summer by Wheeler, Richardson and Maxfield.
Herbert Stetson purchased a horse off James Cooley in Davison last week.
“Skip” Skellenger visited over Sunday last with friends in Ortonville.
Miss Minnie Schwinck of Richfield is assisting Mrs. A.R. Jones with her dressmaking.
