Fundraising event
DAVISON TWP. — Wojo’s Garden Splendors is hosting a fundraiser for Davison United Methodist Church.

Make a purchase at Wojo’s between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. May 19 and 20, mention “DUMC Fundraiser” at the checkout and 10 percent of the purchase price will be donated to the food pantry. Gift cards are excluded.

Living with and
preventing diabetes
DAVISON TWP. — A class on successfully living with and preventing diabetes begins at 1 p.m. May 15 at the Davison-Richfield Senior Center.

Learn about how diabetes effects your body. Medicap Pharmacist Brian Arnes will offer free blood glucose testing. The class is for diabetics, caregivers and anyone wanting to learn about preventing diabetes. Meters also will be given to those needing one.

River clean-up
RICHFIELD TWP. — The Flint Watershed Coalition will conduct its annual river cleanup from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. May 10 at the Holloway dam canoe access off Carr Road in Richfield Twp.

Trustee Gerald Masters encourages local residents to join in the fun. Garbage bags, gloves, commemorative T-shirts and lunch will be provided to all volunteers.

ServSafe training
LAPEER — Lapeer County’s MSU Extension Service is offering ServSafe Training, a program developed by the National Restaurant Association for frontline food service handlers.

The class will be May 15 and 22 from 8 a.m-5 p.m. A fee of $200 covers instruction in control time and temperature when handling food, ensuring proper personal hygiene, preventing cross-contamination, proper cleaning and sanitizing. Details: 810-667-0341. — M.D.

Camp Companions needed
FENTON — Camp Quality USA is a non-profit organization providing a free, week-long overnight camping experience and a year-round support program for children with cancer or in remission ages 4-18. The group is looking for area residents to work as camp companions, as well as children with cancer or who are in remission.

Each companion will be assigned to one camper. A companion spends the entire week by his/her camper’s side. Companions will be responsible for the child’s well-being and care 24 hours a day. Museum exhibit
FLINT — The Flint Children’s Museum on the campus of Kettering University, 1602 W. Third Ave., has more than 40 hands-on educational and fun exhibits. The monthly theme for May is Science Sleuths and for June, Green Thumbs.

58th annual May brunch
FLINT — The Calvary Presbyterian Church, 6100 Richfield Rd, will host the 58th annual May Brunch, sponsored by the Martha Mary Circle, on May 14, starting at 10 a.m.

FLINT — Woodside Church, 1509 E. Court St., hosts a Yards ‘n Yards multi-family rummage sale 9 a.m.-3 p.m. May 17.
