DAVISON TWP. — A benefit for Darlene Gerding, co-owner of Davison Bacon & Sausage, successfully raised about $6,800 to assist the uninsured woman with medical costs.
The fundraiser was put together by Judi Gibbs, Sharon Wiegand, Sandy Redmond and Betty McComb and took place at the Davison Eagles Aerie 3589 June 14.
Gerding began feeling ill in March. She visited the doctor several times and was given various antibiotics before she was diagnosed with emphysema and required surgery in April. Total costs for medical procedures, medications and surgeons is estimated to be between $100,000-$200,000.
The Davison Township resident said she was overwhelmed by the event and the support of the community.
“I want to thank everyone. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. What a town,” she said.
