DAVISON — Students in the early- fives program through sixth grade will begin learning from a new math program next school year.
Envision Math will replace the Everyday Math program that has been taught to students for the past 14 years. The decision was recommended by the Advisory Curriculum Council (ACC). The newer program is research- based and exceeds prior content expectations.
“The math adoption is a major thing,” said Board President Kim Lindsay. “But, we’re moving to something that will work even better.”
Other curriculum changes approved for next school year include high school biology, physical science, law and computer science and Davison Alternative Education biology, physical science and senior research.
Board of Education members approved the curriculum purchases totaling $363,465.
“As you know, before purchasing new textbooks and materials, a three-year curriculum study must be completed with reports provided to ACC,” said Assistant Superintendent Eric Lieske.
“Our curriculum coordinators, teachers and principals have spent countless hours developing curriculum, evaluating materials and selecting appropriate books. I appreciate the dedication of our curriculum committees, ACC committee and especially ACC co-chairs Christian Bush and Angie Hards who kept us all on schedule.” — M.D.
